KARO-NA! We nailed it
We will remember today, June 1, 2020, as one of the most fortunate Mondays humanity has ever seen and experienced.
Yes! We have defeated COVID-19.
If we look back at the events of the last 6 months, who would have believed that there was going to be any occasion this summer to celebrate. In the last few months, our planet was down; but certainly not out. The human race has once again shown resilience and risen like the Phoenix.
Cut back to March 2020 - when the world started seeing lockdowns to save humanity from the deadly virus. Parliaments, stock markets, schools, shopping etc. were under lockdown. New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo was struggling to define “ essential services”. A country like India was invoking archaic law - Epidemic Disease Act, 1897 - to enforce lockdown. Italian medical chief, Roberto Stella succumbed to COVID-19. In the month of April, Japan was persuaded by the world to postpone the largest sporting event on earth to the coming November. The American President was holding China responsible for the “Chinese Disease”, whereas China was calling it a biological weapon, implanted in October 2019 by the American military while participating in the Wuhan Military World Games.
Apple shut down its stores outside China. Mylan, Novartis, Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, Merck & Co. etc. were scrambling to find a cure for this disease. Some of them even went ahead with human trials with a “cocktail drug”, which was a mixture of the malaria vaccine and an HIV drug. The world was investing in survival. People started exchanging quotes out of the Bible, Gita, Quran etc. to make us believe that God is unhappy with us and the way we treated this planet over the centuries.
It was in mid-May, when dark clouds started dissipating and a bright light started flowing out of the blue sky. To be precise, May 10, 2020 - when Europe in general and Italy, France, and Germany in particular claimed that they were not getting any more infected patients on a daily basis and that they had cured around 90% of infected people. America also acknowledged this wonder drug called “COVID Killer”, produced by a small laboratory in the Himalayas, Bhutan as a panacea. Bhutan, gave up its claim over the patent for the larger human interest and permitted global pharmaceutical companies to manufacture this drug. Some medical experts also gave credit to rising temperatures for the mutation of the virus.
The last two weeks have renewed our hopes that Earth is going to see many more centuries. All signs of existence are back. Stock markets are up 70%. The likes of Harvard and Cambridge have started calling back students for regular classes. Cinema is back on its feet. Interestingly, many of them have bought the rights to the events of the last 6 months. All sporting events are back with a fresh schedule and athletes have started training hard. Energy is back and chins are up!
Today is the first Monday after 3 months when I am going to be in school again and I look forward to congregating with my friends without any fear.
